Privacy Policy for DontTouchMyMac
Last updated: April 9, 2026
TL;DR
The app is designed to work locally, with minimal network activity.
DontTouchMyMac is designed so that its core protection behavior runs on your Mac. We do not include in-app analytics, we do not upload motion data, and we do not sell personal information. Network activity is limited mainly to licensing, downloads, and update-related checks.
1. What we do not collect
DontTouchMyMac is designed to provide a local alarm utility for a locked MacBook. It is not designed to profile users, collect analytics, or build behavioral data.
- No analytics or telemetry about how you use the app.
- No uploaded motion readings, trigger samples, or alarm event records.
- No access to your camera, microphone, location, contacts, photos, or browsing history.
- No advertising trackers, tracking pixels, or third-party profiling tools inside the app.
2. What stays on your Mac
The main protection behavior is local by design. The app evaluates movement on your device and, when triggered, plays an alarm on that same Mac.
- Movement detection and alarm behavior run on your Mac, not on our servers.
- Alarm volume, sensitivity, imported sounds, and related preferences remain in local app storage.
- License status may be cached locally so the app can continue working between online checks.
3. Local settings and storage
The app stores practical settings on your Mac so it can remember how you want it to behave. This can include alarm volume, sensitivity, launch-at-login preference, selected alarm sound, and other local protection settings.
If you import your own sound files, those selections are handled as part of your local app setup. We do not operate a cloud sync service for app preferences.
4. Network requests
The app uses the network only for limited operational purposes. In normal use, those purposes are generally limited to license checks, downloads, and update-related requests.
- License activation and validation, if you enter a license key.
- App update and download delivery checks, when the app or website looks for newer builds.
- Basic website and file-delivery request logs handled by the providers that serve the website and downloads.
We do not use network access to stream motion data, remotely monitor your device, or create behavioral profiles.
5. Hardware and system access
To provide its core functionality, DontTouchMyMac uses a limited set of hardware and system capabilities on your Mac. That access is limited to what is needed for movement detection, alarm playback, and app behavior.
- Built-in motion and system state APIs, so the app can determine when a locked Mac is actually being moved.
- Audio output, so the alarm can play on the device.
- Standard macOS settings storage and login-item behavior when you enable launch at login.
- It does not use your camera, microphone, location services, contacts, photos, or calendar.
6. Third-party services
A small number of third-party providers may support specific parts of the product experience, such as checkout, licensing, hosting, and file delivery. Those providers process data under their own terms and privacy policies.
- Lemon Squeezy, for checkout, payment handling, license generation, and related customer records.
- Website hosting and file-delivery providers, to serve the website, download links, and future update files.
7. Policy changes and contact
We may update this policy as the app, website, licensing flow, or update system evolves. If we do, we will revise the date at the top of this page.
Questions about privacy, licensing, or data handling can be sent to support@donttouchmymac.com.
